Although these foods are originally came from China dish named “Tou Luk Pia”, which means green bean pie cake, now bakpia has become typical Jogja food souvenirs where its name derived from the village of Pathuk, a village located not far from Malioboro where Bakpia Pathuk first produced.
There are various kinds of Bakpia Pathuk brands sold throughout Yogyakarta such as Bakpia 55, 35, 65, 99, or maybe 6. However, the most famous brands are probably Bakpia Pathuk 25 and 75. Although it may seems to be confusing, there is no real difference in those products as it is said that the naming was used by house number of bakpia production site in Jalan Pathuk that recently being changed to Jalan AIP II KS Tubun. Alternatively, there are also other brands that do not use numbers like Bakpia Djava or Bakpia Kurniasari.
You may find these Jogjan snacks almost everywhere throughout the city of Jogja as it is widely distributed to several souvenir shops. However, if you wanted to taste it directly from its production house, you may as well visit the original store of Bakpia Pathuk 25 in Toko OngkoJoyo that is located in Jl.AIP II KS Tubun 65 and Toko Pasar Pathok in Kios Pasar Pathok (Pathok Market Kiosk) 14-18. You may also visit other branches of Bakpia Pathuk 25 such as Toko Kembang Jaya in Jl. Laksda Adisucipto KM.9 and Bandara Jaya in Jl. Laksda Adisucipto.
Bakpia Pathok 25 has many different flavors and each of them brings a delicious delight that can be consumed by everyone. In terms of flavor, bakpia of Bakpia Pathok 25 does not not merely contains green bean flavor, which is the original ingredients used in the production of Bakpia, but also serve other variation of flavors such as chocolate, durian, pineapple, cheese, and black Kumbu. Over time, there might be another flavor that will be used in Bakpia Pathok 25, such as strawberry or blueberry. Aside from its variety of delightful taste, the price of Bakpia Pathok 25 is not too expensive. It cost only IDR 15.000 for a package of 10 and IDR 20.000 for a package of 20 for the original green bean flavor. All other flavors cost IDR 17.500 for a package of 10 and IDR 22.000 for a package of 20. Besides selling the bakpia, Bakpia Pathok 25 also sells various kinds of Jogjans’ snacks such as Angleng, Getuk Trio, Ampyang and Kue Moachi (gelatinous rice cake).
