If you are in Indonesia, you may not want to pass the opportunity to visit Bandung. Bandung is one of the busiest cities in Indonesia, which is well known for its shopping centers, foods and tourist object. One of the most popular tourist objects in Bandung is Cihampelas street, better known as the Jeanstreet. Is is because the main stuff sold in the outlets around here are clothes made of jeans or denims. In addition, you can also find a variety of Bandung souvenirs and gifts on this road. There is one thing that makes this street different from the other streets in Bandung, even in Indonesia. Here, you can find famous Hollywood characters and superheroes huge statues that are amazingly set in the yard or somehow “glued” to the factory outlets’ buildings. Some of them are Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Alladdin, Rambo and many more.Cihampelas Street is located in the northwestern part of Bandung. A lot of public transportations called ‘angkot’ (city transport) are passing through this street, such as Cicaheum – Ciroyom, Cicaheum – Ledeng, Kalapa – Ledeng, Caringin – Dago, Cisitu – Tegalega, Ciumbuleuit – St. Hall and Gunung Batu – St. Hall routes. There was a Damri bus route going through here as well, but it is now closed due to the massive traffic of this road. A taxi may be an option but it would be more expensive than public transportation. If you want an easier access to this place and other places in Bandung, you can rent a car from car rental service. This road is always crowded almost every day, especially on the weekends and holidays, so you probably want to park your car in your hotel or Cihampelas Walk (Ciwalk). If you want to have a walk on the weekends or national holidays, you can use angkot. When it has reached Cihampelas street and you feel the traffic jam already, it is time for you to get off and walk along the street. The length of the street itself is not that far, only 1,5 km from the upper to the lower end.
Cihampelas Street is very vivid, with 25 jeans stores presence of competing in terms of design, product and price. All stores are designed in accordance with the huge statues of all-time favorite movie stars that adorn the fronts of the shops. Sylvester Stallone as Rambo is lined up next to Spiderman, while on the opposite side of the street, Batman invites you to take a look inside the ‘Superhero Factory Outlet’. Up ahead, you will also find Superman, Tarzan, Alladdin, Catwoman, Ultraman and Dragonball character. Here, you will not only find jeans, but also various types of clothing such as clothes with military force, t-shirts, and jackets. You can also find a lot of street vendors offering to sew your newly- bought jeans for actual fit, as well as other strange paraphernalia such as BB guns and miniature kung fu fighters. In addition to clothing and jeans center, on Cihampelas street you will also find the famous icon of Cihampelas Walk (Ciwalk). All of the stuffs offered around here are reasonably affordable. However, you will not be able bargain in most of the stores here.
Your visit to Bandung is not complete if you miss out on a visit to Cihampelas Street. On this road, you can pamper yourself with shopping for a variety of quality jeans and apparel made locally, which are available at relatively low and affordable prices. Do not forget to visit the Cihampelas Walk while you are there.
