This restaurant that combined the concept of seafood market with restaurant dining is located at Jl. Raya Bukit Mas 109 and Jl. Manyar Kertoarjo No. 62. This unique concept can be seen directly after you get into the restaurant, where there is a tank displaying sea creatures such as lobsters, crabs, fishes, clams, frogs, grouper, eel and pretty much anything that you could name. Of course this aqua tank display is not only functioning as decorations, because it is there where visitors can directly choose your main ingredients, just like how it is done in the seafood market. From there, you can see the sea foods being prepared. If you are too lazy to pick your own sea foods, then just have a sit one of the many tables and order up your favorite menu.

The Layar Seafood Restaurant offers a variety of crabs, fish and other seafood dishes. Their special signature dish is a menu called Kepiting Telur Asin, which means Salted Egg Crab. Just as the name suggests, the sauce on the crab dish is made from Salted Duck Eggs, locally known as telur asin, where the duck eggs are preserved using the salting method by soaking them in either brine or salted charcoal. The fresh crab is boiled until cooked and then mixed with crushed salted egg with a few other spices. Although it might look a bit unappealing even with the lettuce garnish, the crab dish delivers a heavenly taste when you had them in your mouth with steaming hot rice. The crab’s crunchiness and the salted egg’s coarseness created a harmonic combination that made this dish as one of the most delicious crab dishes in Surabaya. The other signature menu is Steamed Grouper Mud. It is a dish where fresh mud grouper is combined with soy sauce and sesame oil as its seasoning. It is then wrapped in aluminum paper package with bok choy and hioko mushrooms, and steamed until perfection. Other menus included are Kepiting Saos Padang (crab with Padang sauce), Kepiting Asap (smoked crab), Kepiting Saus Singapura (crab with singaporean sauce), Sukang Bakar Parape, Gurami Goreng Rica (fried gourami with rica sauce), Lobster Saos Mentega (buttered lobster), Udang Kipas Garlic, Udang Ronggeng Garlic, Kerang Batik Bawang Putih, Kangkung Asap Layar, Cah Ginseng Garlic and Cah Pucuk Daun Pepaya.The Layar Seafood Restaurant opens daily from Monday to Sunday at 11:00 AM to 22:00 PM.
