After dropping off from the bus, you can walk or ride becak (pedicab) about 500 meters to the South. After crossing the parking lot, a gapura (or entrance) bearing the name of Bale Ayu welcomes visitors who are soon greeted by smiling staff in traditional batik uniforms.
It’s noteworthy, if not remarkable, that Bale Ayu Restaurants offer about 20 different gourami dishes, either served in bakar style (grilled), goreng (fried) or kukus (steamed) such as Gurami Saus Bale Ayu (Gourami with Bale Ayu Sauce),
Gurame Saus Citarasa (Gourami with Citarasa Sauce), Gurami Crispy Asam Manis (Crispy Gourami with Sweet and Sour Sauce), and Gurami Bakar Bale Ayu (Bale Ayu Grilled Gourami). It is worth trying the favorite menu in this restaurant, the Gurame Bakar Bale Ayu, as it is grilled and smothered with an orange colored glaze made from different spices. A mixture of grilled tender meat is combined with the rich ingredients to impart a slightly spicy and savory taste. Nila Merah Crispy Asam Manis (freshwater red tilapia) is another fish dish that is also highly recommended. The fish is mixed with wheat flour and deep-fried. A sweet and sour sauce is served separately in a bowl. This particular sauce is made from tomato, soybean sauce, onion, shallot, salt, pepper, sugar and cornstarch and is presented with slices of pineapple and paprika.
